And so the screen also rises what began as a denouement can be seen behind the eyes for as the curtains close it becomes a birthday cake the screen becomes the close-up of candles burning on a birthday cake and like air blowing into your eyes you see the breath blowing out the candles but they’re that special kind so that after a moment with a fizzle and spark they begin burning again but still you feel the air on your eyes you feel that moment when you have to look at someone and there’s nothing behind your eyes except air and you feel the pressure and blinking doesn’t help…

FADE OUT

Then the curtains open but no one is on stage just the empty dorm room of what you saw on screen you see the bunk beds on one side to the left and desks set up to the right a stand alone sink at the door obviously with no running water and no window no light from the outside you just see the residual light coming from Vandever’s computer monitor. Then heads poke out from the right and the left. Vandever cautiously steps out from the right of the stage and the MC from the left. They meet in the middle and assume their positions. The MC hops to the top bunk and Vandever plops down on the swivel chair in front of his computer. What comes next has the haste of lack less syntax the only punctuation the turn of perspective or setting and this is suitable for the guess of who’s talking and what really about for after all it’s up for the audience to decide.

VANDEVER/MC:

…and it’s one of those beautiful nights in winter early still when the streets are blue even the grass has an orange or pink haze of sunshine all purple in some places and it’s like you come inside from that and you have to share what was outside with those you meet on the inside and it’s only sad in how you share it and so Vandever stares up at the MC at his rotten slippers swinging from the top bunk and says more to himself than his guest now that he’s visceral now that they’re both visceral on the stage sometimes I think I might understand why I might lie or cheat or steal because sometimes I can justify doing it by deciding for myself if it’s deserved… Ya but can you really make up your own rules?  Well it seems like the ones they tell you about are to keep you busy from not breaking the ones they don’t.  True but then once you decide what they are and who they are that made them and what rules they have you become one of them.  Nah I’m just saying I know what it feels like to be stolen from violated like you gave a key to someone sometime back in the past or maybe it too was taken from you in anger in the premeditated cold and now you must change the lock but even then you’re not sure you’re just not sure if they used that key or was it someone something else that they can still get in and take from you…
